Dear Friend in Christ,

Welcome to our church! We hope that soon, the Road Meeting House - First Congregational Church will be your church, too. Everyone is welcome to share in worship here. "For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them". Matthew 18:20

You may be wondering about our name … well, the Road Church (as it’s often known) was gathered in 1674. At that time there was only one road in this area, the Pequot Indian trail then known by settlers as “The Road” and now officially named “Pequot Trail.” This was the only church along the road and hence, the name.

The church was founded as a Congregational Church and we remain so today. Our church is a member of the NACCC (National Association of Congregational Christian Churches) and is proud to be counted among the still independent Congregational churches of this country. We share with our sister churches a passionate commitment to Christianity and Congregationalism:

With intellectual freedom and responsibility before God as guiding values, Congregational Christian Churches have founded colleges at home and planted missions abroad. The Congregational Way has provided a religious, philosophical and moral force that has shaped our nation and the world from the moment the Mayflower landed in the New World.

By voluntary membership in a National Association of free churches, a local church can join in efforts one church could not undertake by itself and experience the fellowship of kindred minds in a nationwide body of churches, while maintaining full control of its own affairs. (NACCC homepage)

As a congregation we strive to live daily the truths revealed by God and through his son, Jesus Christ, to spread light in our world. Members of our congregation serve God and our church in any number of ways including providing support for a variety of missionary and outreach works. Current projects include aiding anti-hunger programs such as local food banks and Share Our Strength™, supporting our troops overseas, serving community holiday dinners, and participating in ecumenical worship and choral services among others. We have an active Sunday School program for our children as well as a newly-revitalized Youth Group; our regular Sunday worship service includes a special children’s time. Various Bible Study groups meet regularly to explore and learn together and opportunities exist for those interested to take an active part in our worship by serving as Pulpit Assistants and as Deacons.

We are pleased that you are interested in our congregation. If you have any questions please speak with our Pastor, Rev. Ron Lake, or with one of our eight deacons (usually identifiable on Sundays by their badge) – we are delighted to share our love of the Lord with you!

Sincerely,

Sandra Wright
